Everyone needs a community where they feel that they belong, whether it’s a sports team, art collective, dance group, or even just a local music venue they visit regularly. It’s important that you have a group of people you can turn to when the rest of the world rains on your parade. Having that undying love and support can really make a world of difference when it comes to your emotional stability and drive to push on. For me, the group of people I feel most at home with is fellow artists. We see the world in different colors and are on a different frequency than most other people existing in the world today. Whenever I get the chance to meet a fellow artist in person, it truly is a treat to be able to express myself in a way that differs from how I would do so around other types of people.

Today’s fashionista is someone I have admired from afar on Instagram for a while now. From her art to her fashion choices, she has a clear point of view and is definitely a unique individual. Getting to finally meet her in person is one decision that I’m glad I made; I was able to express my artistic vision, and myself, in an environment free of judgment. If you get the chance, make sure to check her out on Instagram (@emilyeww).

No first rate outfit is complete without a statement piece. This fashionista’s outfit isn’t any different. From head to toe, she’s polished and put together, looking like she put serious thought into her ensemble. The black cage shell dress she’s sporting is to die for. It’s a dress that can be super versatile when paired with different garments. For instance, if it’s a hot summer day, throwing on a light cotton crop top underneath makes for a perfect summer look that won’t make you sweat your butt off. On the other hand, a cool and crispy autumn evening could see this item worn on top of your favorite turtleneck sweater for cool weather coverage. Any way this dress is worn is sure to make a bold statement that will make sure you’re all the rage!

If you weren’t already made aware from last Thursday’s article, I love DIY projects, specifically in the context of fashion. This awesome graphic tee was screen printed by none other than this fashionista herself! Although it can be expensive, I highly recommend trying to screen print on one article of clothing some time in your life. It’s nice to see that graphic tees are breaking through into the fashion market because they’re such an easy way to show everyone what you’re about. It’s like when you put bumper stickers on your car, or when you adorn your laptop with cute decals from your favorite artist.

Like I’ve always said, comfort should never be sacrificed for style. If you want a garment to be wildly successful, it should look as elegant as can be while making sure the wearer feels the same. Ballet flats are something that fit perfectly into this category. They are undeniably functional, but still comfortable, all the while being a versatile piece that can be worn with many different styles of dress. The juxtaposition of the lighthearted and cutesy style of ballet flats paired with this rough around the edges cage dress really makes this look. Taking hard and soft looks and fusing them together is somewhat commonplace in fashion, but that’s because it works.
