Color is the spice of life and is a way to define many different emotions and feelings. When you’re sad, people tell you that you’re looking blue. When you’re sick, people tell you that you look a bit green. Without color, there would be no need for things like art or fashion. Sure, you have those beautiful silhouettes that make many body types look amazing, but are they really worth wearing if there’s no color? While I may have no room to talk, because my wardrobe is almost all black, I can totally appreciate color in places where it definitely deserves recognition.
In addition to color, print and pattern have equally important places in fashion. You can spice up an otherwise okay outfit with a pattern or print and turn it into a showstopper. On the flip side of this, it can also be easy to go overboard and become an eyesore. Unless this is your goal (I like to be obnoxious with my fashion choices a lot of the time), you should be observant of what you wear and how it has an affect on your daily life and those around you.
Today’s fashionista is starting to become a regular here at Gutterfashion and for a good reason. She has a style with which I constantly fall in love and cannot get enough. This outfit is one of those times; as soon as I laid my eyes on this dress, my jaw dropped to the floor. The print on this dress is awe-inspiring, and makes a big statement. The bold print and beautiful colors make sure that wherever you go, you’ll be the center of attention.
I’m reminded of the poodle skirt when I look at this dress, mostly because of its shape, but also because of the dress’s overall 50’s feel. The vintage trend in fashion is something that I greatly enjoy seeing, as there are a lot of good looks and styles in fashion that could use a revival every now and again. You cannot go wrong in a dress with a flowing skirt.
Closer inspection of this dress is when you really notice all of the beautiful details in the print and understand how beautiful it truly is. Nature is something that I love, and something I draw deep inspiration from in many different places like art and fashion. Whenever I see an article of clothing adorned with any kind of nature print, my heart skips a beat. Something as beautiful as this cherry blossom design should not go unnoticed. Not only does the print make it a great transitional piece for spring to summer, but the lightweight fabric and airy build make it ideal as well. It lacks sleeves, so it can be worn under a cardigan or jacket in the cooler spring weather but also helps your body breathe in the hotter summer weather. It’s a super versatile piece.
While we’re on the conversation of vintage 50’s inspired clothing, lets talk about these awesome shoes! When I think of shoes that are associated with the 1950’s, these are the first pair that comes to mind. They’re reminiscent of the very popular rockabilly style and are the total definition of cool, unlike actual bowling shoes. The colors on display in these shoes really compliment the dress and add to the overall vintage look that this outfit so totally exudes. Adding a mesh middle to these shoes was a perfect idea on the part of the manufacturer. This makes sure that you can wear these shoes in any season but winter, because honestly who wants a bunch of snow leaking in through the mesh in their shoes?
