This look definitely isn’t weather appropriate, but that’s okay! It’s a cute outfit to wear and to look at, so does anything else REALLY matter? That’s why coats were invented. When I say I was freezing my ass off taking these photos, I mean I was literally a walking icicle. I had to continually run inside in between photos because it was that cold out. I persevered, however, because there was no way the frigid weather was going to stop me from sharing this staple goth look.
Who is the first person you thought of when you saw this dress? If your answer was anything other than Wednesday Addams, you’re completely wrong and should immediately go marathon The Addams family. In all seriousness, though, this black velvet dress is super comfortable, and, as I mentioned in an earlier article, is super current. The Peter Pan collar is something that should be done more in fashion and I think would look cool on any top.
I had needed an entirely different paragraph for my bat wing boots because HOLY CRAP, aren’t these shoes just the bee’s knees? They’re impossible to keep clean because they’re black and velvet, so they attract all the little dust particles in the air. It’s a bummer but definitely not a deal breaker. I’ve gotten so many compliments since I bought these in December. They’re a bold statement piece and can enhance any dull wardrobe, or in this case, really tie everything together.
If I were shooting this look in, say, September I would have definitely omitted the black leggings for super sheer stockings or fishnets. My legs look really good in leggings, though, so maybe I’m just a liar. A great way to make this look a bit more extreme is to completely destroy the leggings you’re wearing underneath the dress. My suggestion would be to snip and fray them with a pair of scissors in a crazed and non-linear fashion. The boots have already taken it there, why not go further?
So, what’s your favorite winter wardrobe statement piece? Are you staying true to the weather? Or are you toughing it out in the name of fashion? Let me know in the comments below!
