Everyone loves a good pattern, whether it’s floral, striped, or even houndstooth. They do a lot to spice up your wardrobe and bring excitement to any outfit. Loud, bright patterns can be intimidating to some people, even causing them to shy away from utilizing patterns in everyday looks. While I do wear a lot of black, I love patterns just as much. I personally don’t think you can ever go wrong with a strong, bold pattern. Some people may disagree however.
On my trip to the thrift store last weekend, I knew that I wanted to find something with a heavy pattern, but wasn’t exactly sure what kind. I wanted to let my mood guide my trip through the store and help me pick out clothes that felt right at that specific moment. Sometimes I end up with stuff I totally love, and sometimes I end up with stuff that sits in my closet for months before it sees the light of day again, but today I was in luck. This tropical button up is exactly what I was looking for! While the colors are more muted than I usually go for, the button up itself still stands out, especially with this outfit. It really makes your upper body the focus and I like that a lot. I own a lot of button ups because I think they’re so easy to style with other garments. You can really throw on any t-shirt underneath a button up and take it off if it gets to be too hot during the day. Buttoning up as intended is a viable option as well, but I don’t like to play it safe! Button ups are such versatile garments, and everyone should own at least one. By now you guys should know that I love distressed and deconstructed clothing. If I can, I’m going to find a way to take whatever clothes I have just sitting around in my closet and mess them up. With this shirt, all the work is done for me. I was actually on my way to the counter at the thrift store when I saw this little gem, and I knew that I had to have it. Not only is the text cute, but I actually like the font too (some of my graphic design friends would kill me for saying that). If you’re not afraid to be holey, this shirt is one that could be rocked all summer, despite the dark color. While I didn’t get these shoes on this trip to the thrift store, they did come from one a while back and I haven’t really had a chance to wear them. The print is something that I really love. When worn with the right outfit, it helps your stand out amongst the crowd in a good way. They’re a perfect fit for any summer wardrobe and really reflect the weather we have been having lately. If the pattern is too much for you, feel free to replace them with any other kind of flat or sneaker in a neutral color. When I saw this sun and moon bag, I let out an audible gasp. This has me written all over it. From its vintage print that makes me feel like a 90’s Wiccan (shout out to The Craft), to its cute key ring charm that says, “to hell with work lets go to Las Vegas,” I was all about this. I don’t carry a lot of bags, because I hate switching all my stuff from each one, but this one is perfect for a day out on the town. You can throw your important stuff for the day in here and carry it around without worrying about it getting in the way. Thrifting Tip: Sometimes it’s better to not go in with a plan. If you have this idea of what you want and you don’t find it, your mood will probably be dampened and you won’t enjoy the rest of the experience. Let your mood guide you through the store!
