Authenticity is an important aspect of my life. If I were to live any other way, I would just be shorting myself. I was born an original and I intend to keep it that way, so when I first discovered street fashion, I was completely enamored. There were groups and tribes of people who worked together to inspire each other in underground segments. They didn’t scan fashion magazines and fashion forums looking for new looks, they were the walking photo spreads. It’s not something you can create in a lab; you just have to let it grow organically.
Street fashion is beautifully diverse and is a mixing bowl of the greatest ingredients fashion has to offer. There are so many looks, birthed in the streets, which are eventually passed around to the major fashion publications and the general public. A lot of the time, the fashionistas on the street don’t ever get the credit they deserve. The looks are taken from them, and over time the origin is forgotten. But this is the nature of fashion, unfortunately. It’s honestly the nature of most things these days. We must push on and keep striving to be an ever-evolving person so that we may continue to inspire those around us and leave them awe-stricken.
Remember the last thrifted post where I mentioned I was obsessed with the baseball jacket? Well, I wasn’t lying! My best friend found me this black jacket I’m wearing, as well as another maroon-colored one exactly like this. I love taking garments that are normally considered unfashionable pieces and incorporating them into a look. There’s something so sleek and appealing about these jackets that I don’t find in a lot of other pieces these days. It may be because the color is black, but I can really pair this with so many other outfits and can see it becoming a staple in my closet. The plush cotton fabric that lines the inside makes for a comfortable wearing experience.
A top that I’ve really seemed to utilize for the past two summers is this super cute mesh Mickey Mouse tank. It’s in my top five favorite thrift-store finds, bar none. There’s a lot you can do with a piece like this; if you wanted to wear it under another garment like I’ve done, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s light and airy, giving you some breathing room, and doesn’t take away from the rest of the outfit. However, if you wanted to wear it as a stand-alone piece, you could do that as well! It’s the definition of a summer staple.
When I first got this pair of black skinny jeans, they were just a basic pair, with nothing special to make them stand out. Last week, however, a wonderful idea popped into my head. Do you remember when I showed you the shirt I burned holes in? Why couldn’t I do that with a pair of jeans? I took to my best friend’s backyard and burnt away, creating a one of a kind masterpiece. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about them, but I am not disappointed at all! They’re a statement piece that will leave everyone talking and keep them wondering why. To that I answer, why not?
