At this point, winter doesn’t even exist. There have been so many warm days that we might as well just call this pre-spring. With the warmer, unpredictable weather upon us, we are forced to crack open the spring vault and figure out what pieces to integrate into our current wardrobe. Sometimes you find a forgotten piece about which will really work; others are too warm for this unseasonable weather. All we can do is hope for better days, and for the weather to be seasonally appropriate, just like we must be.
The other day, as I was doing a closet clean out, I found a pair of overalls that I forgot existed. It’s the little things like that, that really make your day. Ready to breathe new life into them, I put serious thought into different ways these could be styled. Lately, I’ve found that I’m buying a lot of dresses and overalls to be thrown over cute shirts that look weird on their own. It’s essential to have layering pieces in your closet, unless you’re in the dead of summer.
Speaking of piece you forgot existed, this simple and fun Rocky Horror shirt is a shirt I’ve had for a long time. I went through a huge phase in 2011 where I would crop every shirt and cut the shoulders down. I thought it was so cute at the time, but I regret doing it to some cool shirts. The one thing I always harp on is how expressive graphic tees can be. I’ve been a gender bender since birth, so this is only fitting.
I get into these moods where I want to wear the same pair of shoes with everything I own. Obviously that doesn’t always work and can actually wear the shoes out much faster. I was excited to finally break these shoes out of seasonal retirement because their style level is off the charts. Not only do they really elevate this look, but they elevate my height and make me look taller. That’s really necessary when you’re wearing overalls, because they tend to make anyone who isn’t tall look shorter than short.
So, how are you dealing with the inconsistent weather? Are you finding ways to cope style wise? Or are you becoming a late bloomer? Let me know in the comments below!
