The end of summer is almost upon us. The hot days will soon be over, giving way to the beautifully crisp afternoons and evenings of autumn. As with the end of summer, so comes the end of a fashion cycle. Soon we will all be retiring our shortest shorts and lighter articles of clothing to don longer pieces, like flannel shirts and cozy sweaters. Some people, myself included, have many year round pieces that encompass the majority of our wardrobe. As such, seasonal changes don’t hit us that hard. However, if you’re like most of the general population, you’ll be giving one last hoorah and throwing an end of summer party within your wardrobe. So make sure you give those cute floral kimonos, platform sandals, and frayed denim shorts a proper going away party because once the moment passes, you won’t be able to celebrate them for another nine months.
Today’s fashionista has beautifully embraced a quintessential summer style, rocking a tough modern punk look. The sewn-on patch adorned denim vest is something so cool and timeless, that it will be a summer standard for years to come. Adding patches to any article of clothing is a great way to show off what you’re all about, so that even a simple passerby can learn about you without ever having to initiate conversation. If you’re all about this look but aren’t really a vest person, you can always replicate this with a denim jacket. It doesn’t even have to be the typical denim blue color. There are some many color options when it comes to denim now that you can honestly make it your own. Plus denim is easy to dye, so if you’re not able to find it in your color, you can always alter it yourself!
Crop tops are quite possibly the most recognizable summer garments. When you think of summer, you think of crop tops and vice versa. It’s no surprise that this fashionista wanted to show them off and incorporate them in this look. They’re a perfect piece to layer under something else and can really make or break an outfit. Some times the situation calls for a short sleeve crop top and some times you need to sport a longer sleeve one. Either would have really worked with this outfit, but I’m glad she decided to go the short sleeve route.
No summer denim look would be complete without a punk chic button-up skirt. It keeps you cool in the summer heat and you look stylish too, so what’s not to love? I personally think that the more buttons there are on a garment, the cooler it looks. The buttons don’t even have to serve a purpose; they can simply be for decoration. As long as there are buttons, I’ll love it. Something that could be done to play up the hard edge would be to add a distressed or studded belt. They’re the ultimate in punk rock cool.
