I may not have said it enough, but I absolutely love shopping at the thrift store. I almost exclusively shop there now. Not only do thrift stores have really great prices and deals on all of their merchandise, but you can also find a lot of unique clothing you won’t find anywhere else. When buying thrift store clothing, you’re really choosing to wear someone else’s story and that’s what I love about it. I love to think about the person who wore the clothes before me and what they must have been like.
As of now, I hardly own any articles of clothing that aren’t thrift store purchases. Since I’ve arrived at college, I’ve become far too frugal to even think about shopping at any regular clothing store. This wouldn’t have been the case years before I started college. I used to view thrift stores as buildings full of old clothing that no one wanted anymore, none of which held any sort of value. But booooy was I wrong! I’m hooked and I won’t stop!
The olive green suede button up I’m wearing is one of my new favorite pieces. I didn’t give it too much credit when I first bought it, but it has become a staple in my wardrobe now and I find myself wanting to wear it with so many other pieces. I think because I wear so much black, it really complements almost all of my clothes and that’s something hard to find in a piece of clothing.
Underneath the button up is another really great thrift store find. Sade is a singer that I really love and it shocked me a bit when I found the shirt. I would never have thought that I would find someone else who likes Sade, even if I don’t know whom that person is. Her music isn’t something you’d typically hear on top 40 stations, but it’s definitely worth checking out if you have the time.
The ripped black jeans I’m wearing actually didn’t start ripped. When I saw them at my favorite thrift store, I had a vision. I knew that I wanted to rip them up. At the time, I was obsessed with ripped jeans (I still am) and I wanted a pair of my own without having to rip up one of my favorite pairs. I think that’s another great thing about thrift stores. If you’re in a DIY mood and you want to recreate a look you see somewhere, you can head down to the thrift store and find all kinds of clothing with which you can recreate that look.
Last but certainly not least is my new favorite pair of boots! It’s really hard for me to find shoes I like in my size at thrift stores because I have big feet (and I hate it!) I guess a lot female identifying people around me have average size feet because I only ever seem to find size 7 and 7.5 shoes. As soon as I tried these shoes on, I knew that lady luck had shined on me that day. Not only are they comfortable as heck, but they’re stylish too, and what’s not to love about that?
So, do you love to shop at thrift stores? Are they your safe haven or are they a total chore? Let me know in the comments below!
Also, I want to give a big shout-out to my boyfriend who helped me take these photos. He’s great with a camera and I want to thank him for all his help!
